How To Open Cd Drive On Dell Desktop

The CD drive on Dell laptops and desktop computers is intuitive and usually easy to open, but the drive may stick or not open for a specific reason. If the drive does not eject as it should, do not force or pry it open because you may damage the drive. There are several commands and manual methods of opening the CD drive on a Dell computer. If you still have a disk drive stuck after exhausting every option, professional help may be required to open the drive without causing permanent damage. The disc drive on most computers is replaceable, and external disc drives operate connected to a USB port.

To manually open a Dell CD drive, locate the small, rectangular button that is either on the drive itself or immediately adjacent to the drive. The location of the button varies slightly by model but is most often on the disk drive tray. Press this button for a second and release it to open the drive. If this doesn't work, try using the tip of a pen to press down the button. Your finger may not fully press to engage the drive. If you aren't successful, look for a much smaller button that is recessed in a tiny pinhole. You need a pin or paper clip to press this one. Turn off the computer and press this button with the end of a paper clip to open the drive to eject a disc. If this manual approach doesn't work, turn to keyboard commands to open the drive.

Open your computer to the start screen and simultaneously hold the "Windows" key and the "E_"_ on your keyboard to open the disc drive. This keyboard shortcut sends an eject-disc signal to the drive. If nothing happens, open the "Control Panel" and right-click on "CD/DVD Drive." Click "Eject" to open the disc tray. Unless the computer is frozen or the tray is physically stuck, these commands should open the tray to eject the disc or accept a new disc.

As a last resort, run a power cycle reset and then repeat the steps to open the drive. To run the power cycle, shut down your computer normally. Unplug it from power after the shutdown and wait for a full minute to drain any remaining power. Plug it back into the wall or power strip and turn on the computer. Attempt to open the drive manually or use the command prompts to open the drive. If nothing works, it is time to seek out professional help to repair the disc tray.

Insert the disc you want to play into the drive.Typically, the disc will start playing automatically. If it doesn't play, or if you want to play a disc that is already inserted, open Windows Media Player, and then, in the Player Library, select the disc name in the navigation pane.

If you cannot open the CD-ROM drive without using a paper clip, we do not recommend continuing to do so. Using a paper clip is only meant to be a temporary solution and we recommend you replace the drive.

I have a dell studio laptop with slot load dvd drive. A dvd got stuck inside the drive, i tried to insert another dvd but it didn't even enter a millimetre. I noticed that there was a clamp like thing preventing the dvd from ejecting, exactly in the center of the slot load. With another dvd i tried to lift the clamp along with pressing eject button pressed simultaneously, suddenly the stuck dvd ejected out. Hope this may help someone.

A few issues arise when ejecting drives. Sometimes they don't want to eject, because they are mounted etc. You can override this with eject -l /media/mountpoint or (/mnt/mountpoint). I wrote a function that can be called by simply typing opentray on your command line.

When the device driver is uninstalled, you now need to reboot your computer. (Save any open work first, of course!) When your computer restarts, it will automatically install the now-missing CD/DVD device driver.

A flash drive is a small, removable hard drive that plugs into a USB port on your computer. You can purchase a flash drive for less than $20 at just about any retail store with an electronics department, and even at some grocery stores and pharmacies. Flash drives are a convenient way to bring your files with you and open them on a different computer. You could also use a flash drive to back up important documents and other files. In this lesson, we'll show you how to use a flash drive with your computer.

If you need access to a disc drive, you'd be better off purchasing an external DVD drive that can plug into one of the best laptops (like this highly rated external CD/DVD drive (opens in new tab) from Amazon). Since many manufacturers stopped making laptops with optical drives several years ago, laptops with built-in CD-DVD drives that are available today have obsolete hardware that is several generations old. Keep that in mind!

This HP notebook is another spectacular laptop with an optical drive. As of this writing, it costs $1,099. You may be wondering why this laptop isn't under $1,000 like most laptops with optical drives these days. There are a few reasons for this. One, this laptop has 32GB of RAM, which is a lot! Typically, laptops in this price range have less than 16GB of RAM. RAM makes it easier for your laptop to juggle multiple tasks at once. For example, with 32GB of RAM, you can have 80 tabs open on Google Chrome without it slowing down.

If you open the Device Manager/Disk Management to check and can not find the CD drive connected to PC, you should consider there are problems with the driver. It may be out of date. In this case, you should update the drivers to the latest version and see whether your CD drive can be recognized.

It is possible for you to get an access denied error no matter what type of storage device you are trying to open. Once that happens, you are not able to access the data saved in the problematic drive.

You may find your CD or DVD drive marked with a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager. If you open the Properties dialog box, you may see one of the following errors displayed in the Device status area. 350c69d7ab
